Final Aggie Invitational Results
BRYAN, Texas - Behind its lowest round of the tournament, the 29th-ranked Baylor men's golf team was unable to make up any ground, finishing seventh Sunday at the Aggie Invitational.
Baylor shot a final-round 374 to finish the weekend at 71-over (391-386-374=1151). No. 13 Oregon claimed the Aggie Invitational team title by a resounding 20-stroke margin. No. 1 Texas and No. 15 Texas A&M tied for second at 40-over; No. 28 Oklahoma and No. 30 Oklahoma State finished fourth at 52-over and fifth at 59-over, respectively.
Individual champion, New Mexico's Victor Perez, was the only golfer to finish the tournament under-par, shooting 3-under 213. Oregon's Daniel Miernicki came in second at 1-over 217, while Texas' Toni Hakula and Oregon's Eugene Wong tied for third at 2-over 218.
"It was a disappointing weekend and we struggled," head coach Greg Priest said," but we weren't the only team to struggle. We faced some tough conditions - it was very windy Saturday and the course played tough - probably the toughest I've ever seen this course play.
Baylor senior Joakim Mikkelsen, ranked 29th nationally by Golfstat, tied for 20th at 12-over 228. Mikkelsen was even through six holes before suffering a double-bogey on the par-3 No. 7. The Drammen, Norway, native was 1-over on the back nine to finish the day with a 75.
Freshman Kyle Jones tied for 24th at 13-over 229, while redshirt freshman Niclas Mansson tied for 29th at 14-over 230. Competing as an individual, Filippo Zucchetti made his Baylor debut this weekend at the Aggie Invitational. Zucchetti tied for 38th at 16-over 232.
"There were a lot of doubles and triples (bogeys) out on the course," Priest said. "It definitely hurt not having Lorenzo (Scotto) in the lineup. He would have really helped us.
"When you lose your No. 2 man, it definitely affects you," Priest said. "Hopefully, he'll be able to get back in time for the Big 12 Championship."
Freshman Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and senior individual Drew McGee tied for 42nd at 18-over 234; juniors Ryan O'Rear and Jerry Ruiz finished tied for 44th at 19-over 235.
With the spring season complete, Baylor will look to claim its second Big 12 Conference title in program history April 27-29 at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship in Trinity, Texas.
