STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 25 Baylor softball team (29-17, 6-11) outhit Oklahoma State (23-20, 6-10) 9-3 en route to a 4-2 win at the Cowgirl Softball Stadium on Friday night in Stillwater, Okla.
"I thought we played the game the way it was supposed to be played," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We got great pitching and hitting against a team that we faced in the Women's College World Series last year."
Courtney Repka (15-9) kept OSU hitless thru 4.1 innings and earned the win after allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, walking none and adding three strikeouts.
The Lady Bears got two hits and one RBI apiece from Kathy Shelton, Kaitlyn Thumann and Jordan Strickland.
BU took the lead in the fourth on a sac fly from Thumann that scored Holly Holl for an early 1-0 advantage. Holl led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Sarah Crockett. Megan Turk stepped to the plate and hit one sharp to shortstop that was bobbled, allowing runners on the corners with one out to set up the sac fly.
The Lady Bears added to their lead in the fifth with a pair of runs. Clare Hosack began with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Sydney Wilson. Kathy Shelton made the Baylor lead two on a double to the gap in left center that scored Hosack. Shelton advanced to third on a sac bunt from Kayce Walker, and with two outs, came around to score on a dropped liner at second that gave BU a 3-0 advantage on the error.
The lead blossomed to four in the sixth on an RBI-double from Jordan Strickland. For the third-straight inning Baylor got the leadoff aboard via a single, as Turk singled to left to start the inning. A sing from Thumann put runners at first and second, and Strickland made it three consecutive hits on her RBI-double to left. BU loaded the bases in the inning, but headed to the bottom of the sixth with a 4-0 advantage.
Oklahoma State cut the Baylor lead in half in the bottom of the inning with Repka allowing back-to-back hits to put runners at second and third to lead off the inning. Kelsey Anchors hit a sac fly to left to score Ari Morrison, and with two outs, Hosack threw down to third attempting to pick off the runner but the throw went to left for the second OSU run.
Repka retired the Cowgirls in order in the seventh to earn the complete-game win.
