WACO -
All-American pitcher Whitney Canion has been granted an extension of eligibility waiver, the NCAA announced. The waiver will allow Canion two years of remaining eligibility for the Baylor softball team."This is such great news for Baylor softball and the university," head coach Glenn Moore said. "I want to thank the NCAA for its work in this matter and I am thrilled that our fans get to watch Whitney pitch for two more years."
The junior sat out a majority of the 2012 season after suffering a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee during a 2-1 win over North Texas on Feb. 26. The 2011 All-American is Baylor's all-time leader in strikeouts (899) and holds a 68-33 record for her career.
"I am so excited to continue to wear a Baylor uniform for the next two seasons," Canion said. "Everyone involved has been so supportive and I am thankful it all worked out the way it did."
Canion becomes the second BU student-athlete to be given a hardship season, as freshman Linsey Hays was granted a Hardship Waiver on July 11, leaving the Brock, Texas, native four years of eligibility remaining.
