WACO, Texas -In the final match of a doubleheader, the 42nd-ranked Baylor women's tennis team downed Stephen F. Austin, 6-1, on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

"I thought we did a better job of learning from some of our mistakes in the Kansas State match, and we were able to solve that in the SFA match," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "Any time you play a doubleheader it's not easy. It's a long day. I was proud of how our players competed, considering the circumstances. Ultimately, now we have to get ready for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. That's never an easy road trip. This week's preparation is going to be really vital for our success next weekend."

Baylor improves to 11-13 on the year, while Stephen F. Austin falls to 9-10. With the win, Baylor leads the all-time series against SFA 3-1.

The Lady Bears opened doubles play with Victoria Kisialeva and Kiah Generette beating Malena Gordo and Julia Lorca, 8-0, on court 1. That win gave Baylor the doubles point, because Stephen F. Austin didn't field a No. 3 doubles team and forfeited that match. Alex Clay and Jordaan Sanford defeated Margot de Haan and Laura Servise, 8-4 to close out doubles action.

At the start of singles play, Baylor took a 3-0 lead as SFA didn't have players at No. 5 and No. 6 and forfeiting those matches.

To clinch the match, 10th-ranked Burgic swept past Gordo at court 1, 6-0, 6-0. Burgic now has a 10-match winning streak with an 18-5 record in the top spot of the lineup.

Alex Clay earned a 6-2, 6-0 score on court 3 against de Haan to give BU a 5-0. Biryukova defeated Lorca 6-2, 6-3 on court 2 to improve her dual match record to 7-7.

SFA notched its lone point of the day on court 4, with Abby Stainback falling to Servise, 6-2, 7-5.

Up next, Baylor will face Oklahoma in a Big 12 showdown at noon on April 13 in Norman, Okla.
