Oct. 1, 2014 BALTIMORE, Md. - Baylor senior quarterback
Bryce Petty is one of 15 quarterbacks, who remains on The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list following a trimming of the original 27-man list on Wednesday.
Petty, a native of Midlothian, Texas, is the only remaining Big 12 quarterback on the list following the Bears 4-0 start to the season. He has led Baylor to a No. 7 ranking in the AP Top 25 and No. 6 listing in the Amway Coaches Poll.
Despite missing one game due to injury, Petty has racked up 913 yards and seven touchdowns through the air, while completing 66-of-101 passes. The reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year has also run for 79 yards and three scores to open the year. With Petty's help, Baylor is leading the country in both scoring (56.8 ppg) and total offense (641.0 ypg).
The Golden Arm Award is presented by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. and Transamerica. The award has been presented at the end of each season since 1987 to the nation's top college quarterback, based on his accomplishments both on and off the field.
Other quarterbacks on the watch list are: Anthony Boone (Duke), Shane Carden (East Carolina), Rakeem Cato), Connor Cook (Michigan State), Cady Fajardo (Nevada), Connor Halliday (Washington State), Kevin Hogan (Stanford), Brett Hundley (UCLA), Cody Kessler (USC), Sean Mannion (Oregon State), Marcus Mariota (Oregon), Dak Prescott (Mississippi State), Jake Rudock (Iowa) and Bo Wallace (Ole Miss).
