Women's Cross Country Wins HBU Invitational

HOUSTON - For a second straight year, the Baylor women's cross country team won the HBU Invitational on Friday. Sophomore Peyton Thomas took the overall individual title with a time of 19:21.0 over the 5,000-meter course.
Behind Thomas, Erika Overbeck took third in 20:16.0, while Courtney Cox was fourth in 20:27.0.
Gretta Smith (7th, 20:33.0) and Rachel Covey (14th, 20:59.0) where Baylor's final two scoring runners.
Those five runners tallied a total team score of 29 points, which was nine points ahead of second place Texas A&M.
HIGHLIGHTS
? Baylor won its first meet since taking first at the season-opening bear Twilight Invitational on Aug. 29.
? Peyton Thomas is Baylor's first individual meet winner since Rachel Johnson won the Iowa Black & Gold Invite on Sept. 13, 2013.
? Baylor's top runners did not compete at the meet. BU is ranked No. 22 in the USTFCCCA Coaches' poll and No. 2 in the South Central region. ? Baylor had a total of 16 runnerscomplete the race.
? There were 62 runners in the race and a total of five teams.
