Petty had career highs of 510 passing yards and six touchdown passes in leading No. 5 Baylor to a 61-58 comeback victory over No. 9 TCU on Saturday at McLane Stadium.
The Midlothian, Texas, native completed 28-of-55 passes as the Bears tied their largest deficit overcome in a game (1980 vs. SMU, 2011 at Kansas). BU trailed by 21 points with 11:38 remaining in the fourth quarter, before scoring 24 unanswered points.
In the final period, Petty had 123 passing yards and two passing scores to engineer scoring drives of 45, 92, 91 and 44 yards.
The senior is the second Baylor player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors, joining former Bear QB Robert Griffin III, who was a two-time recipient (Sept. 4, 2011 and Nov. 20, 2011).
The quarterback's 510 passing yards were the second-most in a game in Baylor history and only the second with 500+ yards.
Petty's TD passes were from 66, 29, 67, 47, 28 and 25 yards. He had two previous games with 4 TD passes. Petty's heroics helped BU win its 13th-straight home game and stay unbeaten (6-0, 3-0) on the season.
