Oct. 2, 2014 Tournament Schedule
WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis returns home this weekend to host the HEB/Under Armor Fall Invite Friday through Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Baylor's squad will have two players in action, freshman Eliza Long and junior Kiah Generette. These Lady Bears will be joined by 18 other players from South Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Maryland, Ohio State, SMU and TCU.
"We're excited to be hosting another quality fall event," head coach Joey Scrivano. "I know Kiah and Eliza are ready to compete. This event is no different than anything else we do. It is just an opportunity for us to improve."
Long looks to build on her success in the Miami Invite where she picked up the first and second collegiate wins of her young career. She sits at 2-3 on the season with wins over Pittsburgh's Amanda Wickman and Miami's Judith Bohnenkamp.
Generette will see her first action of the fall this weekend. She comes in ranked No. 37 in singles by the ITA, which is the highest ranking on Baylor's team.
The event kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday with doubles action. Generette and Long will face Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner of SMU. Both Lady Bears will begin singles matches immediately following doubles play. At 3:15 p.m. Generette takes on Sofia Kadzhaya of TCU as Long plays Alexandra Zenovka from TCU.
Doubles play resumes Saturday morning at 10 a.m. as the Generette/Long pairing plays TCU's duo of Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira. The Lady Bears will have another quick break before the 11:15 a.m. singles matches when Generette takes on Ohio State's Grainne O'Neill and Long faces Ohio State's Anna Sanford. The 3 p.m. draw later that afternoon puts Generette against Ohio State's Ferny Paz, and Long against OSU's Olivia Sneed in singles action.
The tournament concludes Sunday morning with singles and doubles action again. First, Generette and Long will play the Ohio State pairing of Paz and O'Neill at 9 a.m. The Lady Bears are scheduled to finish up singles action at 10:15 a.m. with Generette facing Palina Dubavets of TCU and Long taking on TCU's Alexis Pereira. In total, both players have seven matches - three doubles and four singles.
There will be live video of the matches played on the Hurd Tennis Center grandstand courts, while all 12 courts will have live scoring via BaylorBears.com.
