Baylor Head Coach Art Briles

Opening Statement:
Credit goes to West Virginia. They played with a lot of energy and a lot of emotion. We knew the crowd would be engaging, which they obviously were. They played a good game.

We had a good opportunity early in the game and didn't take advantage of it. We had to settle for field goals. In particular on the road, you have to score touchdowns. That came back to haunt us in the second half.

On penalties:
I've never been involved with anything like that. You could check the last however many games we've had, and I don't think we've ever had that many penalties in a game. I guess that's just the way it was seen today. It affected the flow of the game.

On challenges from senior wide receiver Kevin White:
He's a good player. That's why he has the numbers that he has. He was tough to guard.

On the referees' calls:
You never expect them. It's just the way it was seen today. Without question, we felt like throwing it down the field, there was a chance there was going to be a flag. That was on both sides. We felt like we needed to do the same thing and get the same results.

On team's composure after penalties:
I don't know. I didn't ever feel like we were out of control. I think it was just a cause of what was happening on the field of play.

On quarterback Bryce Petty:
They forced our hand a little bit. They beat us. We weren't connecting as we would have liked to. We rolled the dice. I think he did well. I didn't see any confusion. I'd have to watch the tape. Bryce was, for the most part, pretty clear.

On the comeback last week:
There's some of that involved from an emotional standpoint. That's not an excuse because you have to get up and play every week. We tried to ride that momentum instead of hide it. I felt like we had a lot of energy early today. That can usually make a difference at the end.

West Virginia Head Coach Dana Holgorsen

Opening statement:
I'm proud of our mentality. Our guys were ready to play. I can't say enough about how they went out there and played hard. We've been in the situation with some pretty good teams and haven't been able to finish.

On defense:
Holding Baylor to 318 yards and 80 plays is something. We made the decision on Sunday of last week and Coach Gibson did a great job of executing the defense. We were just going to sit there back in the pocket and let them throw into open space. We did a great job of affecting him. We had two starting corners go out in the first half and it didn't change the game plan. We didn't blink. We've been talking about depth for some time - that's going to happen. If you've got depth you've got a chance to win these games.

On receivers going vertical:
We have confidence in Mario (Alford) and Kevin (White) going vertically. If you don't have receivers who go vertical it makes it hard. They played their safeties deeper than Ii thought they would. We had opportunities and we needed to capitalize on them.

On Baylor's pass interference penalties:
That's how they play. They had 17 against UCF, they average about 12. That's how they play. We weren't going to be intimidated. I told guys to take chances. What I'm looking at does not surprise me. It is the mentality they have every single time they line up.

On Kevin White:
He keeps getting better. I think his best football is ahead of him.

On the run defense:
It had something to do with how many people we put in there. We weren't going to play way off. When they dashed us on one of their last ones we were off. We were going to play with our safeties down, and we were going to blitz.

On the injuries to the secondary:
Icky (Banks) continues to be a real solid guy. Ricky Rumph deserves a shout out. He's been in the program for three years and can go out and play. Having guys go in and play at that level when guys go down is what you need to do if you want to win.

On what taking down a top-5 team means:
It felt like we're pretty good. We're disappointed in the outcomes against Oklahoma and Alabama, we were in the game until the fourth quarter and didn't finish. I commend our players for being very motivated. We had a great week of practice. It's great for our University and we will enjoy it.

Our team is very unselfish at this point. That's what it takes if you want to win. All these guys have been "the man," and now they're not.
