ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. - The Baylor women's tennis doubles pairing of
Kiah Generette and
Rachael James-Baker picked up an 8-5 win on Thursday to highlight the first day of action at the Jack Kramer Intercollegiate.
Playing at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club, the eighth-seeded Generette and James-Baker knocked off LSU's Joana Vale Costa and Madara Straume to advance to the round of 16.
In singles, the 117th-ranked James-Baker continued her winning ways with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over UC-Santa Barbara's Stacy Yam to claim a spot in the round of 32.
BU's two other singles participants, Generette and Kelley Anderson, both had a bye in their first match to advance into the round of 32.
All three players would go on to lose their round of 32 matches. James-Baker fell to Marcelina Cichon of Tulsa, 7-6, 6-3, while the 37th-ranked Generette was downed by USC's Gabby Smith, 6-1, 6-3. Anderson fell to UC-Irvine's Sarah Gong, 6-3, 6-7, 7-1.
