Nov. 12, 2014 WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team has signed four student-athletes who will join the program prior to the 2015-16 season, first-year head coach Mike McGraw announced Wednesday.
The Bears' first signing class under McGraw consists of Austin Cotton (Austin, Texas), Garrett May (Hope, Ark.), Hunter Shattuck (Jacksonville, Texas) and Braden Bailey (Groves, Texas).
"I am really excited about this class," McGraw said. "It's gratifying to be able to recruit in and around the state of Texas, and we're looking forward to having these kids on campus."
Cotton is a three-time all-district and three-time academic all-district honoree at Austin's Westwood High School. He shot 7-over-par 293 in the 2014 Austin Men's City Amateur, which was the lowest score among all high school juniors and tied for 22nd overall. Cotton's 2-under 70 in the third round tied the lowest score among 73 golfers who made the cut. He holds a 72.80 tournament scoring average.
May was named a 2014 4A first-team all-state honoree at Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas. He won the 2014 Arkansas Junior Championship and qualified for the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship. May also tied for third place out of 102 players at the 2014 Trusted Choice Big "I' National Championship, finishing as the lowest scoring high school junior at 4-over-par 292.
Shattuck is in his second year at McLennan Community College, where he was named a 2014 PING All-America second team selection as a freshman. He attended Brook Hill High School in Bullard, Texas, where he won the 2013 TAPPS 3A state championship. Shattuck also won the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Junior Championship, and he was a three-time all-state selection and four-time all-district honoree in high school.
Bailey is ranked No. 31 nationally in his high school class by Golfweek/Sagarin. He attends Port Neches-Groves High School in Groves, Texas, where he's been named all-state three times. Bailey has six career top-10 finishes in nine AJGA events, including a tournament title at the 2013 Texas Cup Invitational and a second-place finish at the 2014 Patrick Reed Open.
Cotton, May and Bailey will have four years of collegiate eligibility when the join the Bears prior to the 2015-16 season, while Shattuck will have two years of eligibility remaining.
