Nov. 12, 2014 WACO, Texas - The Baylor softball program signed four players to national letters of intent for the 2016 class Wednesday. The Lady Bears signed three Texans and one player from California that will begin their careers in the fall of 2015 and will take the field in 2016.
Kyla Walker, the younger sister of former Baylor softball standout, Kayce Walker, signed with the Bears out of Franklin, Texas. Walker is a left-handed outfielder from Franklin High School, and she plays her club ball with Impact Gold.
Walker's high school career at Franklin has been impressive as she's been named the District 24-2A Newcomer of the Year in 2012, MVP in 2013 and Offensive MVP in 2014.
"We're glad to add another Walker, she's the sister of one of our fans' all-time favorite Bears, but Kyla will make a name for herself," said Baylor head coach Glenn Moore. "She is fast and can handle the bat as well as anyone we've had, and she's an extremely competitive person."
Rhonda Jarvis signs with the Lady Bears out of Deer Park, Texas and Deer Park High School. She is a right-handed third-baseman and catcher combination that played club ball with the Aces Express and Impact Gold.
Jarvis has helped Deer Park to two 5A state championships in 2012 and 2014. She's been named all-district all three seasons including the District 21-5A Offensive MVP as a junior in 2014.
"Rhonda loves the game and plays with her heart," said Moore. "She is a blue-collar athlete and will not be out-hustled, and she's not afraid of getting dirty. She's the type of hitter you want in the box with the game on the line."
Abby Langkamp was the third Impact Gold product to sign with the Bears Wednesday, and she also spent many of her development years with the Sudden Impact club program. Langkamp is a left-handed pitcher and first-baseman combination out of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas.
Langkamp was named the 2014 District 14-5A MVP as a pitcher. In the circle in three seasons, she's compiled a 57-6 record with a 1.53 ERA. At the plate over three high school seasons, she's posted a career batting average of .391.
"We've been waiting a long time for Abby," said Moore. "We first saw her pitch in the seventh grade for an 18U team. She has good speed and movement, and she is an extremely intelligent pitcher. She can also swing the bat really well and will compete for a spot in the offense as well."
For the second-straight season Baylor will sign a player out of California involved with the California Grapettes club organization. The Bears signed Gia Rodoni, a former club teammate with current Baylor second baseman, Ari Hawkins. Rodoni, a right-handed pitcher, hails from Los Manos, Calif. and Pacheco High School.
This summer with the Grapettes, Rodoni posted a 1.42 ERA and helped her team reach PGF Nationals. In the high school ranks, she was a second-team all-state selection by Cal-Hi Sports and she was the WAC League Co-Pitcher of the Year.
"Gia has the perfect mentality for a pitcher. She not only despises losing, but she wants to dominate and humiliate hitters," Moore said. "Gia is a hard-throwing, power pitcher with all the pitches."
A year ago, Baylor signed seven players on national signing day that will take the field in the spring. The Bears are coming off their third appearance in the Women's College World Series in 2014, with Baylor posting a 49-16 record, and the Bears finished ranked No. 4 in the nation by both the NFCA and USA Softball.
