Men's Golf Finishes Third at Cabo Collegiate

THE RUNDOWN
LOS CABOS, Mexico -
The Baylor men's golf team shot 9-over-par 293 in Tuesday's final round to finish in third place at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, and Kyle Jones took second place individually at 3-under-par 210 for the tournament. It was the Bears' third straight top-five finish as a team.

Baylor (+18) finished six strokes out of second place, which was claimed by Alabama (+12). Houston won the team title with a final round of 6-over 290 to finish at 11-over for the tournament.

Three Baylor players placed in the top-25 individually. Kyle Jones (-3) shot even par in his final round to finish in second place individually, just one stroke behind individual champion Roman Robledo (-4) of Houston. Andreas Gjesteby and Niclas Mansson tied for 24th place at 9-over-par after shooting final rounds of 6-over 77 and 4-over 75, respectively.

Senior Jerry Ruiz and junior Filippo Zucchetti tied for 34th place at 11-over-par. Zucchetti shot 1-over 72 in his final round to move up 12 spots in the standings. Ruiz shot 4-over 75 in his final round. Charles Neel White, who competed as an individual, shot 8-over 79 to finish in a tie for 64th place.

HIGHLIGHTS
• All five players in Baylor's starting line-up finished in the top 35 individually.
• This was Jones' sixth top-10 finish through eight tournaments so far this season, and it was his third top-three individual finish.
• Four of five Baylor players birdied the 15th hole, which accounted for four of 28 birdies made by the 76-player field.
• Gjesteby and Zucchetti both birdied the 18th hole, which was only birdied by five other players in the field in the final round.

STAT OF THE ROUND
2 - at least two birdies were made by each player in the starting line-up in Tuesday's final round.

"I am proud of the way the guys played this week," head coach Greg Priest said. "It's disappointing not to win, but I thought the guys really battled on a tough golf course. We put ourselves in contention to win and had the opportunity to play with two of the best teams in the country. It was a great learning experience for our guys."
