OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -
The Baylor men's golf team shot 1-under-par 279 in Saturday's second round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational to climb all the way from sixth to first place. The Bears' second round was nine strokes better than any other team, and BU leads the field by eight strokes heading to Sunday's final round.

Baylor was in sixth place and six strokes back of the lead entering the day, but by improving their round by 18 strokes from 297 to 279, BU jumped to the top of the leaderboard. The Bears now have an eight-stroke lead over second place Illinois (+24) and a 13-stroke lead over third place Florida State (+29). Oklahoma State (+31) is in fourth place and Colorado and Virginia Tech (+33) are tied for fifth.

Three Baylor players finished the day among the top 15 individuals. Kyle Jones shot even-par 70, in the second round to move into a tie for first place at 2-over par. Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen also shot even-par on Saturday to move up two spots into a tie for fourth place. Filippo Zucchetti moved up 21 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12th after posting a tournament-best second round of 1-under-par 69.

Andreas Gjesteby jumped up 26 spots on the leaderboard after posting a second round of even-par 70, and he is now in a tie for 26th place heading into the final round. Niclas Mansson shot 5-over 75 to finish the day in a tie for 40th place.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Zucchetti was one of two players in the 75-player field to shoot under par in the second round.
Andreas Gjesteby eagled hole No. 9 and has the only eagle made by the field through two rounds.
• Jones leads the field in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.25.
• Baylor shot 3-under as a team on hole No. 15, including birdies by Jones, Zucchetti and Gjesteby.
• The Bears lead the field in par-4 and par-5 scoring averaging 4.27 and 4.75, respectively.
• Zucchetti is second in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.13.
• The Bears were the only team to shoot under par in the second round, recording a round nine strokes better than any other team.

STAT OF THE ROUND
23 - the number of birdies made by Baylor's team in two rounds of play, which is the most made by any team in the field, including 17 in the second round alone.

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor is paired with Illinois and Florida State for Sunday's final round. Tee times for the Bears begin at 9:15 a.m. CT.
