LAS VEGAS, N.V. -
Baylor women's tennis senior Ema Burgic came from behind to take a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over American Hayley Carter in the second round of qualifying singles at the Red Rock Open on Monday.

While results at the event do not count towards collegiate stats, Burgic is currently ranked No. 55, while Carter is ranked third and attends North Carolina.

The tournament, an ITF $50,000 Pro Circuit event, has a 32-person singles qualifying draw that feeds four players into the 32-man main draw.

The win pushes Burgic into the qualifying singles third round, where she will take on Germany's Tatjana Maria on Tuesday for a spot in the main draw.

TOP QUOTE #1
"I was struggling to find the court in the first set, but Haley had something to do with that. She came out on fire from the start. Overall, this match was extremely physical. I was prepared and stayed on track mentally when I wasn't playing well." - Ema Burgic on her match

TOP QUOTE #2
"I thought Ema did a great job of staying in the present. She could have folded after the first set but her competitiveness and focus was the difference in the end." - head coach Joey Scrivano
