Sept. 25, 2014 THE RUNDOWN
LAS VEGAS, N.V. -
After four straight wins, Baylor women's tennis senior Ema Burgic fell in three sets to world No. 138 Michelle Larcher de Brito, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), in the main draw round of 16 at the Red Rock Open on Thursday.

The loss ends Burgic's run at the ITF $50,000 Pro Circuit event.

With the event being a professional tournament the loss does not count towards collegiate stats, but Burgic finished 4-1 at the event after winning her way out of the qualifying draw and claiming a victory in the first round main draw action.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Burgic defeated ranked foes Jacqueline Cako (No. 514 in WTA), Hayley Carter, who is No. 3 in the ITA, Maria (No. 298 in WTA) and Gioia Barbieri (No. 181 in WTA) at the event.

TOP QUOTE #1
"Today was a tough loss, I don't make excuses. Michelle played better than me in the tight situations and that's why she won. This week has reconfirmed to me that I'm growing as player. I need to move past this match and get back to improving my game. I'm extremely thankful for being healthy and all the support I have at Baylor." - Ema Burgic on the match

TOP QUOTE #2
"Unfortunately, tough losses are a part of the process. Overall, it's been a great experience for Ema playing against some of the best in the world. There is no question she can play at the highest level. I'm excited the direction she is heading." - head coach Joey Scrivano
