Oct. 21, 2015 IRVING, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor women's cross country runner Maggie Montoya received the first Big 12 Runner of the Week honor of her career, the league's office announced Wednesday.
The Rogers, Ark., product tallied BU's first conference honor of the season by placing 11th at the prestigious Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday.
Montoya completed the 6,000-meter course in a personal-best time of 19:56.0. She was 20th after 4,000 meters, but closed strong to move up the leaderboard.
Montoya's previous personal-best for 6,000 meters was 20:32.3 at the 2014 Big 12 Championship.
The individual finish helped the BU women produce a point tally of 671, which was 30th overall at the ultra-competitive meet. There were a total of 36 schools in the field, including five top-10 teams.
In the 19-year history of the Big 12, BU female runners have now been honored 22 times. Baylor's last conference weekly award winner was Peyton Thomas, who was recognized on Oct. 14, 2014.
Baylor runners will be off from action this weekend, but will then travel to the Big 12 Championship on Oct. 31 in Stillwater, Okla.
