WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor defensive tackle Andrew Billings was recognized as the Bednarik Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday.

In the 62-38 win over West Virginia Saturday, Billings produced six tackles (five solo), three tackles for loss, one sack and one quarterback hurry. The junior from Waco, Texas, provided constant pressure for the Baylor defense on West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard and sacked him for a loss of three yards in the first quarter to force a Mountaineer punt.

Billings is one of two Baylor players, who were named to the Bednarik Award watch list in July. The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. The award is named for Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67.

Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Nov. 2, while three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 23. The winners of the 2015 Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 10. The formal presentations of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 11.
