THE RUNDOWN
ROLLING HILLS, Calif. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor women's tennis picked up one singles victory on the first day of the Jack Kramer Club Invitational Thursday at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club.
Gabriela Ferreira secured up the lone singles win on the day for BU as she rebounded to take a three-set triumph 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Micheline Aubuchon of Oregon in the opening round of the 128-person singles draw. The BU freshman was then knocked out of the draw with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 setback to Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State.
Meanwhile, the ninth-seeded Theresa Van Zyl got a first-round bye and then fell 6-1, 6-2 to Palina Dubavets of TCU in round of 64 action.
In doubles, the pairing of Ferreira and Van Zyl lost an 8-0 round of 32 match to UC-San Barbara's Jaimee Gilbertson and Stephanie Yamada. The BU pairing advanced out of the first round of consolation play as Sarah Nuno and Alexis Valenzuela withdrew from the competition with injury.

On Friday, Van Zyl will play in the singles consolation round action Loyola Marymount's Elanor Grossman at 6 p.m. CT. The pairing of Ferreira and Van Zyl will also compete in the doubles consolation quarterfinals against the winner of UC Irvine's Sarah Gong and Mazy Watrous and Loyola Marymount's Julia Norlin and Tatijana Sheikhan.
