Dec. 10, 2015 ATLANTA ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor junior wide receiver Corey Coleman was named the 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner Thursday during The Home Depot College Football Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The Biletnikoff Award has been presented annually to the nation's outstanding college football receiver since 1994.
Coleman is the first Biletnikoff Award winner in Baylor history, after being selected as BU's second semifinalist in late November, joining Terrance Williams (2012).
In 2015, Coleman has been honored as a Walter Camp All-America first team selection and an All-Big 12 first team pick. In starting all 12 games, he has 74 catches for 1,363 yards with 20 touchdown receptions.
Coleman's TD catch total is tops in the country and he is third in receiving yards per game (113.6). The junior's 20 TD grabs are currently ranked tied for third-most for a single season in Big 12 history and ninth-most in NCAA history.
Nationally, Coleman is tops among receivers in scoring (10.0 ppg) and ranks first in the FBS in catches of 30-plus yards (20), second in 40-plus (11), third in 20-plus (23) and fourth in 50-plus (5) and 60-plus.
The Richardson, Texas, native has re-written the BU record books, breaking Kendall Wright's school single season (14) and career (30) receiving TD records. Coleman now sits with 20 on the year and 33 for his career.
Earlier this season, Coleman set a new Big 12 record by catching multiple TDs in seven consecutive games and has at least one TD catch in eight of 12 games this season. Coleman recorded the eighth 1,000-yard receiving season in program history and became the first player in program history with multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons (had 1,119 in 2014).
The junior is the featured receiver in the nation's most prolific offense, which leads the country with 48.0 points per game and 604.6 total yards per game.
The other two finalists up for the honor were TCU's Josh Doctson and Mississippi's Laquon Treadwell. Coleman was presented the award by 1991 Heisman Trophy winner and former receiver Desmond Howard.
Coleman is just the fourth Big 12 Conference player to win the honor, joining Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech, 2007 & 2008) and Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State, 2010 & 2011).
The honor is named after Florida State's National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff. Coleman will be formally presented the Biletnikoff Award at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium on the Florida State campus Jan. 30 by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation.
Baylor finished the regular season at 9-3 and 6-3 in Big 12 play. BU will now play in the 2015 Russell Athletic Bowl against No. 10 North Carolina in Orlando, Fla., on Dec. 29. The Bears will be appearing in a bowl game for a sixth-straight season for the first time in program history. For more information, visit www.baylorbears.com/bowlcentral.
