WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor assistant coach Tate Wallis was named the 2015 FootballScoop Wide Receivers Coach of the Year presented by ProGrass Thursday.

Wallis is in his sixth season at Baylor, and his first as an assistant coach working with the receiving corps. He was promoted to the position of guiding Baylor's prolific "Wide Receiver U" in January 2015.

In his first year leading BU's heralded wide receiver crew, Wallis' pupils delivered record-breaking results. Led by Biletnikoff Award-winning and unanimous All-American Corey Coleman, the Bears had 16 different players catch a pass in 2015.

Coleman racked up 74 catches for 1,363 yards and 20 TDs. As an All-Big 12 first-team receiver, Coleman started 12 games and led the country in touchdown receptions (20) and was third in receiving yards per game (113.6). The junior's 20 TD grabs are ranked tied for third-most for in a single season in Big 12 history and ninth-most in NCAA history. He set both the Baylor single-season and career TD records during the 2015 season.

Behind Coleman's record-breaking numbers, sophomore KD Cannon caught 50 passes for 868 yards and six TDs, while senior Jay Lee had 38 grabs for 758 yards and eight scores.

Wallis' athletes helped Baylor lead the nation in total offense and scoring for a third straight year as the Bears completed a 10-3 season as Russell Athletic Bowl champions, while averaging 616.2 yards per game and 48.1 points per contest.

Before becoming wide receivers coach, Wallis previously spent three seasons as an assistant director of football operations involved in offensive quality control and two years as a graduate assistant coaching the tight ends and offensive special teams.

The 2015 FootballScoop Coaches of the Year will be recognized and will receive their awards at an event held in their honor at the American Football Coaches Association's annual convention in January.

Wallis won the honor over two other finalists: Tulsa's Calvin Lowry and Western Michigan's Matt Simon. Those finalists came from nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. The prior winners selected this year's winner.
