WACO, Texas - Former Baylor soccer standout Carlie Davis signed with German soccer team Herforder Sv Borussia Friedenstal.
Herforder, which is based in the town of Herford in North-Central Germany, competes in the top division of women's soccer in Germany known as the Bundesliga. In the Bundesliga, Davis will have the chance to compete against historic teams, such as Bayern Munich, FFC Frankfurt and Wolfsburg. Prior to joining Herdorder, Davis played for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League.
"It's an incredible opportunity to be able to play this season in the German Bundesliga," said Davis. "The game of football can take you so many places you never would have imagined, and I am so grateful for the experiences that have led me to where I am now.
"My years at Baylor were so crucial to my development as a player and person, and I know I would not be who or where I am if I hadn't been a part of Baylor soccer. My college coaches and teammates have taught me everything I know about mental toughness, freedom, dedication and passion, and those are things I carry with me to every new place I go on this journey."
During her time at Baylor, Davis (2009-12) was a standout defender for the Bears. She helped Baylor to two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012 and to a Big 12 Tournament Championship in 2012. During her senior season, she was named to the All-Big 12 second team and third-team NSCAA All-Central Region. Additionally in 2012, she started all 25 games for a Baylor defense that set a program-record with only 14 goals allowed on the season.
