THE RUNDOWN
COLUMBUS, Ohio - To close out a four-match road trip, the sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team shutout No. 19 Ohio State, 4-0, inside the Varsity Tennis Center Sunday.
In an early morning match that last only one hour and 50 minutes, the Bears claimed the doubles point and wins at No. 1, 4 and 6 singles to earn the victory over the Buckeyes.
Baylor (12-2) made a change to its doubles lineup for a second-straight match and the move paid off.
First, Ema Burgic and Leolia JeanJean downed Ferny Angeles Paz and Miho Kowase, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. Then the new pairing of Kiah Generette and Theresa Van Zyl made quick work of Grainne O'Neill and Anna Sanford, 6-2, at the bottom of the lineup.
After sitting out doubles, Kelley Anderson started off singles action by easily handling Grainne O'Neill, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 6 spot. Not long after Anderson's win, the 23rd-ranked Burgic secured a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at the top of the lineup over Anna Sanford.
To clinch the match, No. 88 JeanJean powered past Miho Kowase, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 position.
With the team match decided, singles match on courts two, three and five were all abandoned.
The Bears completed their four-match road trip with a 2-2 record with wins over Ohio State and No. 33 Northwestern (5-1) and losses against No. 15 Michigan (4-1) and No. 12 Vanderbilt (4-3).
