Final Stats

THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas
- Baylor (17-27) lost a 6-3 decision to UTSA (27-18) Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field. The Roadrunners used a six-run fifth inning to overcome the Bears' early 3-0 lead.

After missing out on scoring chances in the first two innings, BU struck in the third with two outs. Darryn Sheppard dropped down a bunt single, stole second and third while Matt Menard walked. Following a pitching change, the Bears tried a double steal and it worked to get the run in as Sheppard crossed home plate right before Menard was tagged out at second.

In the fourth, Hayden Ross led off with a walk and moved to second on defensive interference. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to third, Steven McLean roped a single to bring Ross home.

The Bears worked for another two-out run in the fifth. After Aaron Dodson drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a productive out, Menard singled up the middle to make it a 3-0 Bears lead.

However, UTSA's half of the fifth inning was the story of the game. The Bears gave up six runs on six hits, two walks and two errors, and Baylor did not have an answer.

UTSA reliever Douglas Sefcik III (1-0) earned the win after giving up two runs on two hits and three walks with one strikeout in 2.2 innings. Aaron Burns picked up his first save by surrendering just a hit in the ninth. BU reliever Kody Hessemer (4-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk with one strikeout in 2.2 innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"I thought we played well, aside from one inning. Particularly, we pitched it well. It's very hard to understand how you lose a game like this one. They get a little bit of a break on a fly ball we can't get to in right field that turns into a double. Next one, we slip and fall in right field and can't get to it, and then it turns into a few mistakes. We had one really, really bad inning, but other than that, we really played the game well and controlled the game well on the mound." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor continues its four-game road trip with a 6 p.m. CT game at Kansas Friday to begin a three-game road series this weekend.
