THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - Baylor (12-18) lost a 5-0 decision to Texas State (14-15-1) Friday evening at Baylor Ballpark as Bobcats starter Scott Grist was too much to handle in a two-hit, complete game shutout.
Texas State got on the board early with three runs in the first two frames. Tanner Hill had an RBI single in the first and a two-out infield single started a rally in the second. Another single followed and right fielder Kameron Esthay's throw was off line. BU starter Drew Tolson was there to pick up the ball and threw home to try to get the runner but it hit the runner to let the batter reach third. On the next play a bunt single by Cedric Vallieres gave the Bobcats a 3-0 edge.
The Bobcats then added insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run double by Jared Huber.
Grist (2-2) earned the win, allowing just two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in nine scoreless innings. Tolson (1-6) took the loss after giving up three runs on 10 hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"[Drew Tolson] did a good job of competing up there on the mound. The thing that I liked was that he learned a little bit as he went along. Guys who aren't super overpowering can't let the hitter take the whole plate away. He started working inside to finish guys off, which was good to see." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith
