BAYLOR VS. UT ARLINGTON SERIES
In a series that dates back to 1973, Baylor leads UT Arlington 84-31 overall, 51-12 in Waco and 38-11 under Steve Smith. BU has won six of its last seven games in the series. UTA snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with a 14-3 win in Arlington last season on March 25, 2014, but the Bears won in Arlington earlier this season with a 6-2 win on March 24th.
BAYLOR VS. THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE
Baylor is 147-59 all-time against current members of the Sun Belt Conference: Arkansas State (0-1), Arkansas-Little Rock (3-0), Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1), Louisiana-Monroe (7-3), South Alabama (1-1), Texas State (49-23), UT Arlington (84-31) and Western Kentucky (2-1). BU is 1-3 this season after topping UT Arlington 6-2 on the road March 24th and getting swept by Texas State over the weekend.
BAYLOR BALLPARK'S HOME SWEET HOME ADVANTAGE
Since the park opened in 1999, Baylor owns a 376-162 record at Baylor Ballpark and has never had a losing season in the stadium. The closest BU came to a losing season was in 2011, when the Bears were 16-14 at Baylor Ballpark. Since 2012, BU has won 16 of its 22 home series. The Bears are 10-8 at home this year and have won four of five series thus far (3-0 vs. No .13 Cal Poly | 2-1 vs. Kent State | 2-1 vs. West Virginia | 2-1 vs. Oklahoma | 0-3 vs. Texas State).
BAYLOR GETS BACK-TO-BACK COMPLETE GAMES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2001
Baylor starters Daniel Castano and Drew Tolson teamed up for back-to-back complete games on the mound two weekends ago vs. Oklahoma for the first time since 2001. Back in 2001, Justin Taylor (5-1 loss vs. Texas) and Steven White (12-2 win vs. Texas, pitched eight innings) did so on April 20-21. On March 27th, Castano posted nine innings in a 3-0 win vs. Oklahoma and Tolson followed with the same on March 28th in a 7-2 win vs. OU.
Daniel Castano POSTS BAYLOR'S FIRST COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT SINCE 2011
Daniel Castano's complete game shutout March 27th vs. Oklahoma in a 3-0 win was Baylor's first complete game shutout since Logan Verrett did so on March 22, 2011, vs. Louisiana Tech. Castano allowed five hits and five walks with four strikeouts in a career-long effort. He also became the first BU pitcher to toss a complete game shutout in Big 12 play since Shawn Tolleson did so at Kansas State on April 13, 2008 (Willie Kempf also had a seven-inning complete game shutout vs. Missouri on April 11, 2009).
FRESH FACES SETTING THE PACE
Partially due to injuries, Baylor's underclassmen have 65 percent of the team's at-bats and 66 percent of the team's innings pitched. The Bears' team leaders in homers (Aaron Dodson), slugging percentage (Joe Sabatini, .462), doubles (Darryn Sheppard, 8), ERA (Daniel Castano, 2.40), wins (Theron Kay, 3) and innings pitched (Drew Tolson, 52.2) are all underclassmen.
