Samantha Schaefer was honored Tuesday by the NCEA as National Rider of the Month for her performance in equitation on the fences during the month of March.
Schaefer, a senior from West Minster, Md., went undefeated in fences for the month. She earned MOP honors against South Carolina and Auburn, and took home the MOP in fences at the Big 12 Championship for the second year in a row.
In the Big 12 Championship, Schaefer won points in both fences and flat against TCU and K-State to help the Bears win the conference championship for the first time since 2010.
Schaefer was also honored as the Big 12 Fences Rider of the Year for the second year in a row and was selected to the All Big-12 team for fences and flat.
This is Schaefer's second time this year to be honored as NCEA Rider of the Month. She was also awarded the honor for her fences performance in December.
With a 13-4 overall record, Baylor will be the No. 2 seed in the NCEA national championship April 16-18 in Waco.
