Sept. 17, 2015 WACO, Texas â '¬" The Baylor women's tennis team will host the Under Armour/HEB Kickoff at the Hurd Tennis Center Friday through Sunday to open the 2015 fall season.
The event will feature players from Alabama, Incarnate Word, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Tyler Junior College, as well as four BU players. Doubles action will commence on Friday at 2 p.m. with singles following at 3 p.m.
Kelley Anderson, Elizabeth Profit, Rhiann Newborn, and Theresa Van Zyl will compete for Baylor. Meanwhile, teammate Kiah Generette will take part in the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif.
Returning sophomore Anderson is coming off her first year of play as a Baylor Bear, in which she posted a 27-10 overall record and 21-7 mark in dual-match play.
Profit and Newborn are both newcomers to the team. Profit, a freshman, is a five-star recruit who has been ranked as high as No. 988 in the world by the ITF and has won nine career ITF Pro Circuit main draw matches. Newborn is a transfer from Syracuse, who produced a record of 18-19 during her freshman and sophomore years. She played at the No. 3 spot during 2015 and went 11-9 in singles action.
Van Zyl was 15-6 in dual-match action in her first year in Waco.
"I like the progress we've made in practice this past month," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "However, we need some tournament play to gives us an opportunity to test our mental and physical skills. It's a great chance to learn and grow every time we step on the court."
Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Draws will be set during a coaches' meeting on Friday morning.

In conjunction with the kickoff event, the first session of the Baylor Cub Tennis Program will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday. Children under the age of 11 can come receive free tennis instruction from Baylor players and staff. Tennis equipment will be provided, but athletic clothing, including tennis shoes, is required.
Generette, ranked No. 53 in the country to open the season, made the singles draw at the prestigious event as the Oracle wildcard entry. She was 19-10 in 2014-15 and held a 14-6 dual-match record. The women's singles draw in California contains four top-10 ranked players and 10 that concluded 2014-15 in the top 20. The singles draw for the event will be announced at a later time.
