WACO, Texas â '¬" Baylor women's tennis athletes won five of their six matches Saturday at the Under Armor/H-E-B Kickoff at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Playing Ohio State players, BU athletes went 3-1 in singles action. Kelley Anderson picked up her first victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Ferny Angeles-Paz. Elizabeth Profit downed Grainne O'Neill 6-0, 7-6(2) to start her collegiate career 2-0. Theresa Van Zyl also produced a 2-0 start to the 2015 fall season with 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 over Olivia Sneed.
Rhiann Newborn suffered the only loss on the day with a 6-3, 6-3 setback to Anna Sanford. In doubles, the pairing of Anderson and Profit knocked off Natalia Maynetto and Aryn Greene of Alabama, 8-5. Meanwhile, Newborn and Van Zyl got past Alabama's Andie Daniell and Joanna Nena Savva, 8-5.
Meanwhile at the Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., the 53rd-ranked Kiah Generette dropped her consolation singles match to No. 23 Jasmine Lee of Mississippi State, 6-3, 7-6(1).
