WACO, Texas -- The two newest members of the Baylor women's tennis team,
Rhiann Newborn and
Elizabeth Profit, both picked up singles wins Sunday on the final day of the Under Armor/H-E-B Kickoff at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Playing Texas A&M athletes in singles action, the Bears went 2-1, while splitting a pair of matches in doubles against Ohio State.
Newborn recorded her first victory as a member of the squad, after transferring in from Syracuse, by downing Anna Mamalat, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, Profit, a freshman, completed an undefeated tournament in singles action with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 107 Stefania Hristov.
BU's other singles competitor on the day, Theresa Van Zyl suffered her first loss of the season with a 6-4, 6-2 setback to Eva Paalma
In doubles, the pairing of Anderson and Profit took care of Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed, 8-4, while Newborn and Van Zyl dropped an 8-4 contest to Grainne O'Neill and Ferny Angeles Paz.
