WACO, Texas â '¬" The Baylor women's tennis team will send Theresa Van Zyl and Gabriela Ferreira to take part in the Rice Invitational Friday through Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.

The event will feature players from Houston, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas-San Antonio, Texas State and UT Arlington. Doubles action will commence on Friday at 9 a.m. with singles following at 10 a.m.

"Theresa and Gabi are eager to compete this weekend in tournament play," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "They have been working hard in practice and they are progressing nicely. This weekend will be a good test of the work they have put in."

Playing in the first round of singles action, Ferreira will compete in her first collegiate match against Elizabeth Thoms of UTA at 10 a.m. and Van Zyl will face Astrid Gehre of UTA at 11 a.m. On the year, Van Zyl is 2-1, after last weekend's Under Armour/HEB Kickoff.

Both players are slated to have a second singles match on Friday afternoon, regardless of the outcome of the morning match.

The twosome will pair together for doubles action to open the tournament at 9 a.m. Ferreira and Van Zyl are scheduled to face Gehre and Thoms in the doubles draw as well. The second round of doubles action will not take place til Saturday.
