THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas
-- Baylor baseball stayed hot with the bats for a 20-4 win over Stony Brook to earn its first series win of the season and Steve Rodriguez era on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (3-3) scored multiple runs in the first, third, fourth, seventh and eighth innings to put away the Seawolves (1-3) for a second straight rout.

Friday night's star Darryn Sheppard was at it again in the first inning to get the Bears a 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run opposite field home run to right field, driving in T.J. Raguse after a walk.

Sheppard struck again with two outs in the third after another Raguse walk and an error that let Matt Menard reach base instead of ending the inning. Sheppard roped an RBI double down the left field line. Richard Cunningham backed him up with a two-run single up the middle to put BU ahead 5-0.

The Bears put the game out of reach in the fourth with a six-run frame. Steven McLean started it with an HBP, and after a Josh Bissonette walk, SBU went to the bullpen to no avail. Menard and Sheppard delivered two-out RBI singles before Cunningham golfed a three-run homer to right. After an Aaron Dodson HBP and Ben Carl reaching on error, McLean capped the scoring with an RBI single to right for an 11-0 edge.

Stony Brook answered with three runs in the fifth and one in the eighth but the Baylor bats kept rolling as Carl pushed a run across with a double play ball in the sixth.

In the seventh, BU scored five more as Raguse had an RBI single, Cunningham smacked a three-run triple down the right field line and Dodson crushed an RBI double to left-center.

Baylor ended the scoring with three runs in the eighth on a Joe Sabatini RBI double to center and two-run homer to left by Sheppard.

BU starter Drew Tolson (1-0) earned the win, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings. SBU starter Cameron Stone (0-1) was handed the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks with one strikeout in three innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"It was great to see the bats come alive today. Days like these are refreshing offensively. The guys were in swing and playing easy today. The biggest thing is that tomorrow's another baseball game, so we have to keep that momentum going, jump out early and allow the offense to go." -- Baylor head coach Steve Rodriguez
