Baseball's Menard Named to Johnny Bench Award Watch List

WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball junior catcher Matt Menard was named to the 2016 Johnny Bench Award watch list, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced Tuesday.
Menard is on the list for the award that is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher for the first time in his career and is one of 74 recognized. The semifinalists will be announced on May 18, three finalists on June 6 and winner will be honored on June 30 in Wichita, Kansas, at the 19th annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet.
Through 11 games, Menard is hitting .297 with three doubles, one home run and six RBI. Behind the plate, he has a .957 fielding percentage and has thrown out two of the five runners that have attempted to steal on him.
