THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -- The 50th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team (8-11) secured a 4-1 victory over Lamar (9-8) Friday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

Inclement weather forced the action to be played indoors, after the match was originally scheduled for the Hurd Tennis Center.

In doubles action, the 14th-ranked pairing of Kiah Generette and Blair Shakle took a 6-1 victory over Andrea Ivanovic and Anna Spengler at the No. 1 spot. BU then clinched the opening point with a 6-3 triumph by Elizabeth Profit and Karina Traxler over Katya Lapayeva and Luciana Di Laura on court two.

In singles play, Baylor raced out to an early advantage, winning five of six first sets.

However Lamar was first to clinch a match as Vanessa Phan suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Hanna Elfving at the No. 6 spot.

From that point the Bears cruised to three straight-set wins to close out the match. First, Gabriela Ferreira earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Stephanie Marchena at the No. 5 spot.

Next, Rhiann Newborn closed out a 6-3, 6-1 win against Spengler at the No. 3 position.

To clinch the match, Traxler powered past Talissa Merchiers, 6-1, 6-0, on court four to put the Bears up 3-1.
