Baylor Head Coach Jim Grobe

"We're not very consistent right now, that's our problem. It's obvious we've got some talent, and I think we can be a really good football team but right now we're just so inconsistent.

"Now to start out, I think David Bailiff and his coaches had a great plan. I think they do a great job coaching their kids. I thought their kids played really, really, hard. I think they're a good football team. I think they're going to win a bunch of games. I want to start out saying I think they had a good plan that kept us off-balance a little bit early. Doing the wild-cat with the receiver was really good on their part. I thought defensively they hung in there really, really well. They chased the football, and did a lot of good things.

"From our standpoint, we obviously need to start quicker. We've had two first quarters now back-to-back where we haven't started very well. We were a little bit soft on a couple of drives but overall I thought our defense played well tonight.

"The thing we had some problems with tonight was we continue to struggle a little bit with running the pace we want to run. I think we had some situations tonight where we had their defense on their heels a little bit, but weren't going as going as fast as we can go. I think we can pick up our pace offensively. Defensively we just missed some fits inside -- on two or three of their good runs we didn't hit the right gaps. I think those are things we to continue to improve on, but I think a lot of the issues that we have are that they are young guys who have not been out there a whole lot. I was really disappointed that we missed a couple of field goals. That's something we can't do. Chris (Callahan) has been good all summer and is someone who I am going to count on to make field goals. We have to do that. The kicking game does a lot of good things, but we had that penalty on the punt return and we can't do that. We have a guy who can (return punts) if we do a better job with the blocking. I've been pretty much pleased with special teams."

On the number of drops:
"I think Blake had a tough night tonight. He had two or three plays that he could have made, but he's a young guy. He played really good last week. I think you're going to see that with some of our younger players. We dropped some balls that we should catch, but we made some big plays, too. We've got talent at the wide receiver position. But again, consistency is the deal."

On the OL:
"I thought better tonight. One of the things tonight that was impressive to me was it was so hot and humid and we're not playing a whole lot of guys in the offensive line. And I thought Randy Clements did a good job our offensive line coach, especially at halftime, changing some of the schemes to help us a little bit. I saw progress tonight in the offensive line. I thought we hung in there a little bit; early, not so much. But as the game wore on, I thought our guys really reached down and bowed their necks and got it done."

On Shock breaking the record:
"Obviously when you break a rushing record, it shows you've got a really good player The thing that I'm pleased with, that you saw tonight, is Terence Williams and JaMycal Hasty are pretty good running backs. So, it was a little tougher for Shock to get the record because he wasn't the only guy carrying the football tonight. And going forward that's what I feel best about is we've got some depth at the running back position."

On Orion Stewart injury:
"I'm not sure. Mike Sims told me we should have everybody up and going next week. He seemed to have some ice on his ribs. We keep getting hurt with receivers falling on top of the defensive backs. Ryan Reid last week and Orion this week. Hopefully we'll have everybody full speed and back in it next week."

On having Travon back in there:
"It was great to have him back. I think he's a little rusty. There were a couple times I thought he could have made plays where typicaly he would have made plays. But he did some good things tonight and he's a fire starter on defense. He gets everybody cranked up. It's great to have him back in the mix, especially with us getting into Big 12."

On KD:
"The good thing about KD is he's got such good hands and he does a nice job with the short passes, the things we throw out in the flat. But he's obviously got the great speed to run past you. And he's got just great hands. When he catches the deep ball - a couple of times tonight he had people right there and still made the catch. And then the one up the sideline to get in the end zone was pretty special. He's got it all. And he's starting to become pretty consistent. He was hurt in the summer, he missed some practice time, and I thought he was really rusty early. But I think he's really been coming into his own.

Shock Linwood, RB

On if it's good to finally get the record:
"Oh, yes. I didn't know I had broke it. Coach came to the sidelines and he was like, `Congratulations, son, you broke the record.' And I said, `Thank you. When? And he was like, it was after the play I fumbled. I was upset about that, I had to regroup myself and get back on track. On the first run, he said I went over the record. "

On the accomplishment:
"Just something I can look back on and say hey, I was one of the legends and one of the all-time leading rushers. Now, I'm going for the touchdown."

On whether or not someone break his record:
"We'll see."

On how the offense coming along:
"Not too bad. We're lagging a little on the quarterbacks and running backs. I know Seth and myself were telling each other on the sidelines that offense isn't going as planned and we don't like how the tempo is and stuff like that. But we'll just have to correct that during the week and play fast on Saturday."

On if the slow start is because of a young OL:
"Yeah, but we just have to get those guys going. We have to talk to them and let them know we're trying to do tempo, tempo. We just have to correct that on film."

On using the three running backs:
"It helps because it keeps a three-man rotation to be able to keep the running backs fresh."

KD Cannon, WR

On the connection with Seth tonight:
"It's something that we've been practicing on in practice trying to get better. We've got a lot of young receivers, so I've got to lead the way for them."

On Rice leaving him so open on that last TD:
"Really, it was a high-low go for Chris Platt. So they bit on that and I just sat down. And really the reason I jumped is because I wasn't trying to get hit on my bad knee. I just decided to jump over him."

On the knee:
"I feel like I'm getting closer to 100 percent. I feel more explosive this week."

On hitting the deep ball:
"I would say we were just hitting better on that, because the last two weeks we were forcing it. It came natural today, so it's just something we've got to keep working on."

On his role changing this year:
"Yeah, I feel like it has, because I'm the only receiver coming back that played a lot last year. So I've just got to lead the way for the younger guys and set a good example for them."

On the offense slow starts:
"Just being you, not knowing what to do."

On dropped passes:
"I can't get on them because not too long ago, I was in that situation. My freshman year, sophomore year I wasn't that consistent. So I can't get on them, I've just got to build them up."

Seth Russell, QB

On if the slow start is frustrating:
"It's definitely frustrating. We preach start fast, and we haven't done that the past three games. It's pretty disappointing. But that's just something for us to grow on. It's an aspect of the game that we need to get better at. We'll watch film this week and we'll plan and we'll work to get better at that part of the game."

We've got young guys up front that are just trying to get the hang of things. And they're throwing some different things at us up front. But Coach did a great job of coaching it up, talking it out on the sideline. I think it took us four series, five series to get it going. And we can't have that next week. Rice was a great team tonight. We just hit more plays than they did.

On the drops and how to handle that:
"You can't do a whole lot. They're upset at themselves just because they want to be great. And if I go over and jump on them it just makes them more upset and gets their head out of the game. I know they really want to be great, catch the ball and score touchdowns. And that's what our offense is about. And my job is to go encourage them and say hey that's over with, you can't worry about that, let's focus on this next play."

All the defenses have been playing pretty soft. They've been given us underneath stuff. It was good to hit a couple deep ones. That's something we work on a lot. We've done a good job of trying to execute those big plays when we can get them."

On expecting more out of KD:
"He's one of the leaders. He's one of the leaders on offense. I expect him to be perfect, he expects me to be perfect. And I know that's not going to happen. He's human, he wants to make big lays and sometimes he runs wrong routes. Which that's fine. I understand what he wants to do. And it's my job to get him the ball. And I know when I can get him the ball, he can make plays. And that's what happened tonight."

Travon Blanchard, NB

On how it felt to get back out there:
"It's a blessing to be back. I've been going through some tough times. This was my first injury ever, it was my first surgery ever. And along with that came the first two games I've ever missed in my life. Really tough times for me. Thank God I was able to do rehab very quickly, recover quickly and now I'm back with my teammates."

On the defense keeping them in the game:
"We gave up a few passes in the beginning, which opened up running lanes that they were able to capitalize. Rice is a very good team and they have a lot of tremendous athletes. They had a really good game plan. As a defense, I see a lot of palces where we can get better, where I can get better. That was a good thing that we were able to get the win and also have plenty of things we can coach and get better at."

On missed tackles:
"We have to get more of a striking mentality. Whenever it's third down, we've got to get off the field. I got a roughing-the-passer penalty that luckily didn't come back to haunt us. I have to make sure I get better o that. The defense has to tackle better if our offense isn't clocking."

We know that our offense is a very high-tempo offense, they take a lot of shots. With that, we know we're going to play a lot of snaps on defense. So in case the offense isn't clicking like they usually are, we take it upon the defense to get the ball back to them. Make sure we bend but don't break on defense. If we're going to allow any points, it has to be a field goal - no touchdowns. And I think we did a good job of that today."

On if the defense won the game:
"It's a team effort, of course. Offense wasn't clikcing at one point. Defense, we stepped up and were able to get the ball back to them until they got going. Tremendous team effort today."

On getting the sack:
"It was a great feeling. That was the confidence boost I needed. I disagree with the penalty, but it's not my job. The ref threw the flag, so we have to live with it and get to the next play. Getting the sack and feeling like I kind of made up for it was a great feeling."
