On facing Iowa State on the roadà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it's huge. It's always tough playing at Iowa State. They have great fans, a great turn out every year, and it's a grass field. We don't play on a grass field a whole lot, which will be a little different. For the most part Rice was a good test game for us to see how we would react on the road. I feel like we did the best we could. Going to Iowa State -- it's going to be a great environment. We're excited for it."
On tight end success this seasonà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's always been in the arsenal. We haven't really attacked it much. it could throw a hiccup in the defense real quick. Defenses are wanting to pound the box, but if we can slip him and disguise him a little bit that's always good. It's a quick hit, a pretty quick first down most of the time. We like to save it if we can, but we have to use it we will. We like to throw the ball outside, but if we need some quick hits and need to keep the momentum going that's where we'll go to."
On last Saturday's matchup vs. Oklahoma Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The first thing that stands out is our defense. They were lights out, and we put them in some bad situations. We were going for it on fourth down on that one that we didn't get, and we put them on our own 30-yard line. They stepped up. They made plays. They got the ball when they needed to get it. They stripped the ball on the 1-yard line. They created a couple more fumbles, and they stopped them on fourth down on the 2-yard line which set up the 99-yard drive. I feel like they really exceeded their expectations for sure. They know what they can do. They set a high level for themselves, and I feel like they'll be able to stand up to it the rest of the season."
On how big it was getting that first conference winà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was big. We needed that little boost. The past three games we played well, but just getting a boost, being able to start off conference play 1-0 and get it off our chest before the next game is big."
On how big it is to force turnovers and let the offense get back to workà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's a big momentum change. The one we got on the half yard line was huge. It gives fuel to our offense. Those guys go out and take care of what they need to. It helps change the mood of the game."
On how much forcing turnovers is emphasizedà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's a pretty big deal. We have a group of guys who are hungry to try and go get the ball. Anytime we see it loose, we go for it. Anytime there is an opportunity for an interception we've been able to get plenty of them and have been able to take advantage of them."
On the atmosphere at Iowa Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's a really good atmosphere. They do a really great job, and the fans are really involved. We haven't played very well there the last couple of times we've been there. So we hope to quiet them down and play our game."
On Saturday's game vs. Oklahoma Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was a lot of fun. I love catching the ball, and it's fun to give the offense another weapon to our disposal. I think it's just making the offense even better than it already was. So, it's been a lot of fun."
On his role as a tight endà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's tough on my body, but I enjoy it. I love hitting people. I always have. So, (blocking) doesn't bother me. Catching the ball is awesome, but I really enjoy blocking and helping the team like that as well. I watch film on other tight ends from other schools and even in the NFL, and I would say our tight ends' assignments blocking wise are definitely the most difficult. I don't think you could put most tight ends blocking pass protection against a Big 12 defensive end, and we're asked to do that and we excel at it. I think that's something we take great pride in. It is tough, but to help the offense that's what we have to do."
On the chemistry of the offensive lineà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The chemistry has always been there. It's been fun watching the younger guys grow. We're operating on all cylinders right now."
On the success of the running gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We just know that each one of us need to do our job. We know that we have to be able to run the ball to win the game."
On the upcoming scheduleà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The competition's just going to keep getting better. We're just going to have to continue to get better each week."
On how the defense performed vs. Oklahoma Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I believe that the defense played extremely well. At the end of the day we played a really good Oklahoma State team and we made the plays we needed to make to get the win."
On his energy level and where it comes fromà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Me and Pat (Levels), we are known around the team as the spark guys. We bring a lot of energy, a lot of passion to it. Energy and excitement? That's what we do."
On staying on the field for such a long timeà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We know everyone is out there giving their all. You're not playing for yourself, you're playing for the guy beside you, for your family, for everyone in the stands."
On playing Iowa Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They bring a lot of energy and they support their team. It's going to be a really good game."
