
EQ Rolls to Road Win over TCU

FORT WORTH - No. 2 Baylor equestrian (7-2, 2-1 Big 12) picked up a coveted road win over conference opponent, No. 9 TCU (3-4, 0-3), defeating the Horned Frogs, 11-9, on Thursday in a split-schedule meet.
The two sides competed in the Hunt Seat disciplines Thursday morning at TCU's Turning Point Ranch in Springtown before trekking across town to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo for the Western contests Thursday evening, gaining exposure for the sport with the rodeo audience.
Starting with fences, the Bears took a commanding 4-1 lead, securing points from Madison Day, Shannon Hogue, and Alicia Gasser. Gasser's 88 secured the first of Baylor's three Most Outstanding Performance (MOP) honors in the contest.
In the flat, Savannah Jenkins and Rachel Van Allen notched points for BU, giving the Bears a 6-4 advantage at the break and transfer over to Western at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Jenkins' 92 earned MOP honors and is the highest score of any Baylor rider in any event this season, making the senior the only BU rider to break 90 on the year.
Switching to the Western side and starting with reining, the Bears took a 3-2 edge in the event to open the lead to 9-6, earing points from Ginger Chant, Shyanne Smith, and Elizabeth Shank. Smith's 73 tied with Shank for the meet-high mark, earning the sophomore MOP honors.
Down to horsemanship, the Bears secured the win with points from Kaylee Mellott and Abbi Demel, closing out the 11-9 victory.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Savannah Jenkins, Alicia Gasser, and Shyanne Smith helped secure three of the four MOP awards for Baylor.
- Jenkins' 92 was a season-high for the Baylor squad, marking the first 90+ score of the season for the Bears.
