#23 BAYLOR (14-5-3) 1, #9 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (15-3-3) 1 Fri., Nov. 17, 2017 Ellis Field (College Station, Texas) BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Paul Jobson
Opening Statement...
"I think it's a little deceiving in the first half we didn't have a ton of shots but we did have a ton of opportunities. We had a number that didn't lead to shots. Jen (Wandt) had to come up big a couple of times. The defenders played great and shut down some of the top forwards in the country which they've done all year long. This isn't the first time they've had to do that. The one off the bar, I really thought that was in. I thought the wind might bring it under the bar. It was a great chance and a momentum building moment for our team. There was a little more belief, not that there wasn't to begin, but it gave us more wind beneath our sails to keep pushing through to the end of this."

"I'm super stoked. We say we want to give God praise whether we win or lose. What we're able to do at Baylor and to be able to represent Baylor nation this year and tonight was awesome. I couldn't be more proud of this team. Jen (Wandt) played great tonight. We have to remember she's a true freshman so a lot of credit to her. Everybody in front of her played a fantastic game to be able to advance against the reining national champions."
Baylor Freshman Goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt
On being under pressure during regulationÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"More so in the second half than in the first but my defense helps run the entire game and allowed only a few shots that were actually on goal. They helped me out a lot. We just got it done in the end, in the last 16 seconds."
Baylor Senior Midfielder Delanie Davis
On the PKs...
"The biggest key is confidence. You have to go out there and choose a side, and choose a tactic. You can't second guess or slip up. You have to approach it with confidence. You have the advantage being eight yards away with just one person in the net. You just have to put it away."
Baylor Junior Midfielder Sarah King
On her game-tying goal...
"I think it hit off the crossbar and Julie (James) tried to kick it in and it was a scrum in there after a deflection and I was just able to poke in it. It's just a total Baylor goal, 16 seconds left. It's a testament to how hard we work. Whether it be 90 minutes or 100 minutes or PKs. We are out there grinding until we get the win."
USC POSTGAME QUOTES
USC Head Coach Keidane McApline
Opening StatementÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"First and foremost, I have to say congratulations to the Baylor team that showed great fortitude in coming back that late in the game and then finding a way to end it in the penalty. This disappointing for our group because I thought throughout the game we were probably the better team. We had plenty of chance to win the game and end the game and we just had to see out sixteen seconds. That is disappointing but I have to give a lot of credit to our senior class. Four years ago, when we got on campus, the program was not in a great space and then they came in and were willing to just believe in the process. The just helped us change the program from the title last year to establishing ourselves this year as one of the top teams in a year were most people did not think we could get it done. I am extremely disappointed for them but at the same time extremely proud of them and the legacy they have left."

"It's tough but I will give our team credit. In the overtimes, I thought that instead of being down we rebounded really well and got back up in the game. I give them a lot of credit because that is not easy to know you have the game and it's in your hand and you can taste it. Then to turn around and to be playing again. That was rough but I thought our staff did a good job keeping our energy up and the players that were not on the field brought the energy up. It was definitely a tough way to go when you could feel the end already there."
Thoughts on the Baylor teamÃÆ'Æ' ¢ÃƒÆ' ¢' ¬ ¦
"Gutty. I mean they are a gutty team. Lots of guts and dangerous personalities. They are extremely competitive and their goalkeeping is solid. She kept them alive in a lot of moments. They have the components because I think in this time of year you just have to have the guts to continue to fight through games and to fight through down moments and to just keep going. They have those components; they have players who are dangerous, they have athleticism, they have a good defense. They have those pieces. Playing overtime is not going to help them on Sunday especially since their numbers aren't huge. But at the same time I like the make-up of the team and the mentality of it."
