THE RUNDOWN
LAWRENCE, Kan. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball lost the series finale and second game of a doubleheader 6-1 at Kansas in a travel-time-shortened seven innings on Sunday evening at Hoglund Ballpark. The Bears (27-17, 8-10) were unable to get a clutch hit with several chances while the Jayhawks (22-22, 9-9) did the opposite to avoid being swept.
After BU missed on a golden chance in the first inning to jump out to a lead with bases loaded and one out, KU answered with a run in the first. Then the Jayhawks scored two more in the fourth.
Following another pair of missed opportunities by Baylor, Kansas plated two more in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Bears had bases loaded with no outs in the seventh but were only able to get a sacrifice fly by Richard Cunningham.
KU reliever Blake Weiman (2-1) earned the win, allowing no runs on a hit with two strikeouts in two innings. BU starter Cody Bradford (4-4) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings.
