Lady Bears pack in 30 home games in regular season
WACO, Texas - Baylor softball released its full slate for the 2019 season, including 30 home games at Getterman Stadium, announced Thursday afternoon by 19th-year head coach Glenn Moore.
"The highlight of our schedule is the amount of home games we will play in the regular season," Moore said. "Over half of our games will be played at Getterman Stadium, the most we've played at home in years. Along with that, we have some powerful opponents, both at home and on the road. To get better, you must play great competition. Our young team must grow up quickly."
BU opens the 2019 season with a historic trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the first time the Lady Bears will play an international contest in the regular season.
BU will headline a strong tournament field in the 2019 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, facing South Carolina, BYU, North Carolina, Liberty, and Washington from Feb. 7-10 at Campo de Softball Nancy Almaraz.
Baylor will play a road game at San Antonio, facing UTSA on Feb. 13 before returning to the friendly confines of Getterman Stadium for the season's home opener and a 10-game home stand.
Baylor brings in Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, and UT Arlington for the Getterman Classic, running Feb. 15-17 at Getterman Stadium.
The following weekend, Baylor welcomes North Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Kent State for the Baylor Invitational from Feb. 22-24.
The Lady Bears then flip to a nine-game road swing, with the second road tournament of the nonconference schedule sending the Lady Bears to The Canyons Softball Complex in St. George, Utah, for the Red Dirt Classic.
BU will face Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Saint Mary's, and Notre Dame (twice) from March 1-3, playing in the shadow of nearby Pine Valley Mountain in the southeastern corner of Utah.
After returning to Texas, the Lady Bears continue on the road gauntlet, playing games at Texas State (March 6), Louisiana-Lafayette (March 11), and McNeese State (March 12-13).
The final pre-Big 12 tune ups will be back at Getterman Stadium, hosting Houston for a doubleheader on March 19 and Central Arkansas on March 20.
Baylor opens conference play at home, facing Oklahoma State on March 22-24 at Getterman Stadium before hosting Texas for a single midweek game on March 27, the first game of the annual split series with the Longhorns.
Baylor's two other Big 12 home series include Texas Tech (April 12-14) and Iowa State (April 18-20).
BU's conference road slate will feature trips to Kansas (March 29-31), Oklahoma (April 5-7), and the final two games of the Texas series flipping to Austin (May 3-4) to close out the regular season.
Midweek and open week nonconference opponents include Stephen F. Austin (April 2), a Lamar doubleheader (April 16), a three-game series with LSU (April 26-27), and UTSA (April 30), all home games at Getterman Stadium.
The Big 12 Softball Tournament is back in its third year after being reinstated in 2017, with the conference tournament held in Oklahoma City, Okla. The tournament will run May 9-11 at Hall of Fame Stadium, site of the WCWS.
The Lady Bears will then look to earn the program's ninth-straight NCAA Tournament bid, with the Regional rounds running May 18-19, Super Regionals from May 24-26, and the Women's College World Series on May 30-June 5.
BU is coming off a 38-18 campaign in 2018, concluding its season in the NCAA College Station Regional.
