Bears sign Argentinian Krywoj, Spaniard Herrero Linana
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the signings of Melany Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana Wednesday. Both players will be available with the start of the spring semester in January.
"We are excited to welcome Mel and Alicia to the Baylor family," said Scrivano. "Each player has a unique-skills set to bring to the table and will immediately be competitive for our program."
Krywoj, a native of Lobos, Argentina, has a career singles record of 60-33 according to ITFTennis.com and has been ranked in the top 1,000 in year-end WTA singles rankings in each of the past two seasons. Her current ranking is 889 and her highest came in May at 731. As a doubles player she also ranks in the top 1,000 with a 962 ranking and a career-high of 877 in May.
"Melany has been on our radar for years, and we knew she would be heavily recruited. She is a tough competitor who plays with character and loves the game. She will be a great asset to the future of our program," Scrivano said.
"Since my first step on the Baylor campus, I realized that this was the right place for me. Although I had many good offers, after meeting Coach Scrivano, Chris, and the rest of the team, it confirmed the way I was feeling about Baylor," said Krywoj. "I believe these coaches and team will help me grow on and off the court. I'm really excited to join a program with such a rich tradition of excellence and can't wait to contribute to it."
Herrero Linana hails from Manuel, Valencia Spain and ranked as high as No. 626 in doubles in 2017, and she was ranked No. 921 in singles in May according to ITFTennis.com. She is also ranked no. 51 in Spain Open Women's National ranking.
"Alicia has already displayed an incredible commitment to her craft, and that is something that is an essential part of our program's culture. She is also very family and community oriented, which makes her a great fit for Baylor," said Scrivano.
"I want to thank my family, coaches and friends in Spain that have been a part of the process of getting me to this point. I could not have become a Baylor Bear without their help and support. My dream of representing my country at the highest level of tennis continues and I know Baylor will play a big part of my development," said Herrero Linana. "When I arrived on campus for a visit and met the team I knew that Baylor is special place. It's about family, growing up and reaching your potential. I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to become a part of the Baylor family. I'm positive that I will learn a lot, grow so much, and make some amazing new friends."
The Bears begin dual match play Jan. 12 at the University of Hawaii.
