WACO, Texas – The bats got going Saturday night at Baylor Ballpark as Team Gold defeated Team Green 6-2 in Game Three of the 2018 Green and Gold World Series, taking a 2-1 series lead.
Gold struck first in the top of the third inning as redshirt freshman Bo Stewart singled in sophomore Kyle Harper. Green answered back in the bottom half with a solo blast from Josh Bissonette to tie the score at 1-1.
Junior catcher and Gold manager Shea Langeliers knocked in redshirt sophomore Ryan Bertelsman in the top of the fourth to give Gold a slight edge, but it was quickly erased as Green benefitted from another solo home run, this time by senior outfielder Cole Haring.
That's all Green would get however, as the Gold bullpen put together three scoreless innings between redshirt sophomore Jimmy Winston, junior Ryan Leckich, and freshman Branson Wilson.
A solo shot by junior third baseman Davis Wendzel in the top of the fifth sparked the Gold offense as they took the lead for good. Harper singled in two runs in the sixth and Wendzel doubled in another run in the seventh to put the game away and clinch a 2-1 series advantage for the Gold team.
The series will conclude Sunday at Baylor Ballpark with Game Four scheduled for 2:30 p.m. An if necessary Game Five will be played directly following Game Four. All games are free and open to the public.
