
Cross Country Lands 21 on Academic All-Big 12 Team

The 21 selections ties a program record set in 2012.
WACO, Texas -- Baylor cross country placed 21 student-athletes on the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The 21 selections between the men's (nine) and women's (12) teams ties a program record set in 2012. The seven first-team selections on the men's side is one shy of last year's program record, and the nine overall honorees tied for the most in the conference. The women's team equaled its 12 overall selections from a year ago, ranking third in the league.
"Our athletes do an outstanding job in the classroom and I am so proud of the way manage their time," associate head coach Jon Capron said. "I am appreciative of the support they get from Matt Davis and everyone at the Student Athlete Success Center for Excellence. They are learning great lessons not only in the classroom but outside as they juggle their schedules. It will benefit them greatly well beyond college."
From the men's team, Sean McCullough (biology) earned his third consecutive first team award while doing so with a 4.00 grade point average. Seth Brown (supply chain management) and Matt Henderson (management information systems) were both named to the first team for the second consecutive season.
Jeff Kirwin (English) and Henry Huff (political science) notched their second first team awards, while Ryan Day (mechanical engineering) and Connor Laktasic (electrical & comp engineering) earned first team honors for the first time.
Jeremy Meadows (computer science) and J.B. Sandlund (pre-business) both made the second team for their first conference academic honors.
On the women's side, Sarah Antrich (biology) and Isabella Lackner (Baylor Business Fellows) were both named to the first team with 4.00 GPAs. Antrich is a first-time honoree, while Lackner is now a two-time first-team selection.
Alison Andrews-Paul (public health), Haley Everroad (biology), Sydney Gandy (anthropology) and Hana Marsheck (health science studies) all made the first team for the second consecutive year, while Emily Curran (biochemistry), Aaliyah Miller (marketing) and Natasha Strump (health science studies) all made their first team debuts.
Gabby Satterlee (communications) made her second consecutive appearance on the second team. Lindsay Walton earned her second academic award after making the 2017 first team, while Brooke Gilmore received her first award as a second team selection.
In program history, a total of 94 student-athletes have been honored on the men's team, while 174 student-athletes have been selected from the women's team. 214 of the 268 selections are first-team honorees. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
