SEATTLE, Wash. - For the second time in its last three dual matches, Baylor women's tennis knocked off a ranked opponent. The Bears downed No. 32 Washington, 4-1, to move to 4-6 on the season.
After 32nd-ranked Huskie duo Miki Kobayashi and Vanessa Wong defeated senior Theresa Van Zyl and sophomore Camilla Abbate at No. 1 doubles, Baylor came charging back with back-to-back victories to stake a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Dominika Sujova and sophomore Angelina Shakhraichuk evened it up with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles, and freshman Kristina Sorokolet and sophomore Jessica Hinojosa followed with a 7-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Hinojosa pushed Baylor's lead to 2-0 with a strong 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Kenadi Hance, before the Huskies could get on the board with a win at No. 2 singles.
The Bears took it from there, notching victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions to claim the team result, 4-1. Abbate bested Kobayashi in three sets on court three, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Shakraichuk followed with a two-set, 7-6, 6-1, result for the clincher.
