THE RUNDOWN
LOS CABOS, Mexico - Baylor men's golf finished in 10th place at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate with a 54-hole total of 19-over-par 871. The Bears carded a 7-over 291 in Tuesday's final round at Querencia Country Club.
Baylor (+17) recorded wins over No. 17 Stanford (+22), No. 45 Ole Miss (+28), Rice (+29), Houston (+46) and No. 14 Wake Forest (+51). The Bears finished behind No. 1 Oklahoma State (-14), No. 13 California (-6), No. 15 Texas (+6), No. 29 Arizona State (+7), Duke (+8), No. 23 South Florida (+10), No. 19 Arkansas (+10), No. 2 Vanderbilt (+13) and No. 20 Florida State (+17). The 10th-place result snapped Baylor's streak of six consecutive top-four finishes to begin the 2017-18 season.
Braden Bailey turned in his best round of the tournament with a 4-under 67, including six birdies, in Tuesday's final round to climb 25 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 36th place at 6-over 219. Garrett May carded an even-par 71 to finish tied for 10th place at even-par 213 for the tournament, recording his fourth consecutive top-10 finish.
Matthew Perrine shot 3-over 74 in Tuesday's final round and finished tied for 20th place at 3-over 216, and Colin Kober posted the Bears' final third round counting score with an 8-over 79. Kober finished in 78th place at 25-over 238, while Travis McInroe shot 10-over 81 in the final round to tie for 61st place at 14-over 227. Ryan Grider, who was competing as an individual, shot 3-over 74 and tied for 61st place at 14-over 227.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor recorded head-to-head wins over five opponents, including three top-50 ranked teams. The Bears defeated No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 17 Stanford, No. 45 Ole Miss, Rice and Houston.
- Garrett May recorded his fourth consecutive top-10 finish.
- Baylor tied for eighth in the 15-team field in par-3 scoring at 15-over 3.25, tied for ninth in par-4 scoring at 31-over 4.31 and finished 13th in par-5 scoring at 2-over 5.04.
- Baylor's 46 birdies tied for eighth-most in the tournament, and BU finished eighth with 157 pars.
- Matthew Perrine tied for eighth in the 80-player field in par-4 scoring at 1-under 3.97.
- Garrett May tied for 10th in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00 and tied for 11th in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.08.
- Travis McInroe tied for 11th in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.08 and tied for 17th with a team-high 34 pars.
- Perrine and May tied for the team lead and ranked 14th in the field with 11 birdies.
STAT OF THE DAY
12 - Braden Bailey trimmed 12 strokes off his score from his first round. After shooting 8-over 79 with one birdie in Sunday's first round and 2-over 73 with two birdies in Monday's second round, Bailey tripled his birdie total for the tournament by recording six birdies on his way to a 4-under 67 in Tuesday's final round.

"This was obviously a disappointing week for us as a team," fourth-year head coach Mike McGraw said. "We did have a few bright spots as Garrett May placed 10th despite struggling with his ball-striking, and both Matthew Perrine and Braden Bailey shot rounds of 67. We have a lot of work to do before our next event."
