TAKE FIVE WITH JERRY Director of Sports Journalism Jerry Hill gives his five takes (plus one) for a busy April 6-8 weekend that has baseball and softball on the road and track hosting the Baylor Invitational on Saturday:
1. Road to Tokyo. With the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo just around the corner, come out to the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium for Saturday's Baylor Invitational to check out a host of Olympic hopefuls that includes junior quarter-miler Wil London, a silver medalist in the 4x400 relay at last summer's World Championships.
2. Top-25 showdowns. Hurd Tennis Center will host a top-25 matchup between the No. 21 Baylor women (11-10, 1-3) and #15 Texas Tech (13-4, 2-1) at 5 p.m. Friday, while the No. 19 Baylor men (17-4) open conference play on the road with matchups against #16 Oklahoma (15-2) at 6 p.m. Friday and #14 Oklahoma State (18-3-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
3. Life on the road. The baseball team (14-13, 3-6) starts a seven-game road swing with a series at Texas (17-12, 6-3) with games at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Sophomore lefty Cody Bradford (3-2, 2.95) might be back in the rotation after missing the OU series with an injury.
4. Back to winning ways. The #16 softball team (21-9, 0-3) picked up an 8-5 midweek win at Abilene Christian and will play a three-game series this weekend at Texas Tech (21-15, 1-5). Going into Wednesday's game at ACU, senior centerfielder Jessie Scroggins led the nation with a .521 batting average.
5. Cooper's back. Playing in his first tournament of the spring, sophomore All-American golfer Cooper Dossey returns from a wrist injury for the Aggie Invitational that begins Saturday at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. Six of the nation's top 12 teams are in the field, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 10 Baylor.
+1. Rematch and redemption. In a rematch of the last three NCATA National Championships, all won by Baylor, the top-ranked Baylor Bears (7-0) face the No. 4 Ducks (4-2) at 7 p.m. CDT Sunday in Eugene. Oregon handed coach Felecia Mulkey her only loss in four years at Baylor last season (Feb. 25, 2017) at Matthew Knight Arena.
