WACO, Texas - Baylor equestrian has hired Marlena Beckham to the full-time hunter seat assistant coach role, announced Wednesday by head coach Casie Maxwell.
Beckham served as the interim hunter seat assistant coach for the Baylor squad in the 2018 spring semester, now filling one of two vacant positions on Maxwell's staff entering the 2018-19 season after the departure of the western assistant coach, Cindy Walquist, earlier this month.
"I am very excited to have Coach Beckham permanently joining our staff here at Baylor," Maxwell said. "She did an outstanding job with our team this spring, coming in mid-year and making things work the best she could for a short period of time. I think she is eager to put her stamp on the program and help us to elevate our team back onto a competitive platform where it should be."
Beckham will look to build on her success from the spring competition schedule, returning a strong group of riders and having a full offseason to continue adding depth to the roster.
BU went 3-3 in the regular season spring schedule, with both the flat and fences squads suffering narrow defeats in the opening rounds of the NCEA Event Championships.
