
Men’s Golf Falls to K-State at Big 12 Match Play

Bears wrap up tournament with two matches on Sunday
HOCKLEY, Texas – Baylor men's golf lost to Kansas State, 4-1-1, in Saturday's pool play match at the 2019 Big 12 Match Play Championship. The Bears fell to 1-2 in the tournament with two matches remaining on Sunday.
BU can still finish third in its five-team pool with a win against Oklahoma on Sunday morning. The Bears will face the Pool A team that finishes equal to BU's Pool B standing on Sunday afternoon, which could be West Virginia, Iowa State or TCU.
Baylor got on the board early in the match against K-State when Cooper Dossey took a 5&4 win over George Clarke. Dossey never trailed in the match, winning four straight holes to go 4-up through seven holes, and he lost only one hole the rest of the way. Dossey improved to 6-1-1 in Big 12 Match Play Championships.
K-State then took four consecutive points to clinch the match. KSU's Jacob Eklund took a 5&3 win over Mark Reppe to even the match, and Will Hopkins and Tim Tillmanns recorded 2&1 victories over BU's Travis McInroe and Johnny Keefer, respectively.
Colin Kober lost for the first time at the Big 12 Match Play Championship, falling 1-up to K-State's Kyle Vance, which made his record 7-1 in two appearances at the event. The match went back-and-forth, with the score either all-square or Vance 1-up throughout the entire round. The players halved eight consecutive holes to remain all-square through 15, but Vance went 1-up on the 16th hole, and they halved the two remaining holes.
Brandon Hoff posted half a point for the Bears by halving his match against Riccardo Leo. Hoff lost the second hole, but won the next two holes to take a 1-up lead, and he wouldn't trail the rest of the way. Hoff was 2-up with three holes remaining, but Leo won the 16th and 18th holes to halve the match.
Baylor is now 6-2 all-time at the Big 12 Match Play Championship, with wins against six different teams. The Bears have posted a 26-14-8 record in individual matches, led by Kober at 7-1 and Dossey at 6-1-1.
