
Program-Record 30 FB Student-Athletes Earn 2019 Big 12 Academic All-Conference Honors

WACO, Texas– A program-best 30 football student-athletes were named to the 2019 Big 12 Academic All-Conference teams, the conference office announced today.
A program-high 18 student athletes were named to the first team, boasting GPAs of 3.20 or better. Those 18 first team selections best a program high of 13 previously set in 2018.
Wide receiver Marques Jones leads the way for the Bears, earning first team honors for the third-straight season. He is joined on the first team by linebacker Terrel Bernard, wide receiver Russell Morrison, fullback Koby Bullard and cornerback Zeke Brown, who all earned the honor for the second-straight season.
The other 15 first team honorees (Will Baxter, Gerry Bohanon, Christoph Henle, Jameson Houston, John Mayers, Garret McGuire, Jason Moore, Casey Phillips, Issac Power, Jay Sedwick, Sam Tecklenburg, Jim Threet and Brayden Utley) earned first team selections for the first time in their careers.
There were also a program-record 12 Bears who were named to the second team, having GPAs between 3.0 and 3.19.
Under head coach Matt Rhule the Bears have had the most honorees (71) during any three-year span in the program's history. This year's 30 honorees follow 22 in 2018 and 19 in 2017.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Overall, a record 222 honorees were named throughout the conference, including 149 first-team selections.
