PALM CITY, Fla. – Baylor men's golf is tied for sixth place after shooting even-par 281 in Sunday's first round of the Valspar Collegiate. The Bears are six shots back of the lead with two rounds remaining at Floridian National Golf Club.
No. 23 Baylor (E) is ahead of five top-11 ranked teams. The Bears lead No. 3 Vanderbilt (+1), No. 9 Georgia Tech (+1), Houston (+4), No. 11 LSU (+5), No. 2 Duke (+6), No. 35 Arkansas (+7), No. 8 Texas (+9) and No. 20 South Florida (+13). BU is tied with No. 27 Texas A&M (E) and trails No. 30 Florida State (-6), No. 31 South Carolina (-6), No. 6 Wake Forest (-6), No. 1 Oklahoma State (-5) and No. 13 Auburn (-3).
Braden Bailey got off to a strong start and was 6-under through 11 holes before finishing at 5-under 66 in a tie for second place, just one shot back of the lead. Colin Kober is tied for 30th place after shooting 1-over 72, while Cooper Dossey and Ryan Grider posted the Bears' final counting scores with matching rounds of 2-over 73. Garrett May shot 9-over 80, while Mark Reppe, who is competing as an individual, carded 1-over 72.

Due to the threat of weather, teams will attempt to play both remaining rounds on Monday, with second-round tee times starting at 7:20 a.m. CT and teams continuing play into the final round. Baylor is paired with Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech and will start from the 10th tee in both rounds. May has the Bears' first tee time at 7:20 a.m., and he'll be followed in eight-minute intervals by Grider, Dossey, Kober and Bailey, respectively. Reppe tees off from No. 1 at 8:56 a.m. CT.
